Here are some of the major influences from the movement education industry that infuse and enhance our teaching at Embody Movement Pilates Studio.


The Franklin Method®

The Franklin Method uses dynamic imagery, anatomical embodiment and educational skills to create positive change in your body and mind.  One of the greatest discoveries of the 21st century is the plasticity of the brain; that the lives we live shape the brain we develop.

The Franklin Method teaches dynamic alignment and how to move your body with maximum efficiency to keep your body youthful and energized. Your whole body is part of a symphony of coordinated movement. In a sense, your posture is reinvented at every instant. In every moment, the ideal combination of limbs, joints, gravity, moving parts, connective tissue, and muscle must be found and directed by your brain and nervous system.

This method follows the wisdom: “it starts with the knowledge that we have the power to change” is one reason it dovetails so well with the Pilates philosophy of the mind-body connection.

The MELT Method®

Barefoot Training

One of the hottest buzzwords currently in the health and fitness industry is “barefoot training.”  With the foot as the only contact point between the body and the ground, this complex structure plays a critical role in the way in which our body stabilizes during dynamic movement.

The Evidence Based Fitness Academy is an educational institution that is dedicated to changing the way the health and fitness industry look at foot & ankle function, human movement and barefoot science.  The Barefoot Training Specialist® Program presents the latest research as it relates to restoring foot function, corrective exercise and athletic performance.  Barefoot training can change foot structure, improve neuromuscular activation patterns and reinforce integrated movement patterns of the lower extremity.

In Pilates, we train essentially barefoot (or at least donned with socks) in order to observe the body’s compensatory strategies in dealing with gravity, force and tension.  It’s amazing how much can be corrected when you begin with the foundation at our base.
