There is so much wonderful about the fall season for which to look forward. Weather that is typically crisp, sunny and lovely. Leaves that are crunchy and full of bold colors. My favorite attire of boots, sweaters and peacoats. Holidays around the corner. And… THE FOOD. With a chill in the air, we want nothing more than the warming deliciousness from seasonal favorites like butternut squash, pumpkin, turkey, and honeycrisp apples. But, it’s important to keep in mind that when approaching these foods there is a major fork in the road when it comes to preparation – healthy or (not healthy)?

Once in a while I totally encourage a (not healthy) food prep. If we never indulge a little it’s likely we’ll never feel 100% satisfied. However, there are so many over-the-top ways to indulge with our fave fall foods it’s key to make choices about how you want to divvy up the yum-calories. To be honest, though, the foods in question are so naturally delicious it is possible to go healthy and still have a total yum factor. A few ideas… 

Salads are personally one of my favorite types of meals because there are a million and a half ways to prepare them with an equal number of items you can prepare them with. For fall, I love mixing in some chopped up honeycrisp apples and dried fruit to sweeten up a salad. Gourd vegetables are the star of any fall menu and I just can’t get enough. Super easy and healthy ways to incorporate squashes and pumpkin are to grill lightly with a touch of oil; butternut squash with a dash of butter and cinnamon is heavenly. Gluten free like me?
