Note from Sarah  – We wanted you to meet our newest instructor at Embody Movement Pilates Studio, so we asked her some questions.   Some of them are about her journey to find Pilates and become a Teacher, and we threw in a few fun questions so you can get to know her better.   As you’ll read, Sabine grew up in Switzerland and English is her 2nd language,  We love her passion and think her sense of humor comes thru in these, her unedited answers.   If you’d like to schedule a session with Sabine, call the studio at 630-481-6367!

Tell us about yourself / your family.
I grew up as youngest of four girls in Switzerland and moved in 2015 with my husband to Chicago, where we were living for 2 years. After that time in a big city, we moved to Naperville.

Describe yourself in 5 words.  Spontaneous, open-minded, positive thinking, fond of traveling, happy

Tell us about your first Pilates experience.    When/Why did you start practicing Pilates?   I started taking mat classes in Switzerland sometime in the early 2000s. The teacher was very inspiring but the classroom was very crowded, with more than 30 students! I always was aware to get a mat in the very first line, to do not miss any instructions.

I never felt better doing another kind of exercise than after doing Pilates. The way, how Pilates brings my body back into the center and my daily activities went better is unique.

Favorite food / or favorite restaurant:  I love every kind of Italian food and I love cooking by myself, so I do not have a favorite restaurant.

If money were no object, what would you do all day?    I would take care for animals in need, design and sew clothes, cooking a delightful meal every day and do Pilates!

Why did you become a Pilates teacher?   After I had to undergo a back-surgery, I decide to choose Pilates for recovery. The positive and rapid recovery convinced me to do the 600-hour Pilates teacher training program in Chicago to share my positive results.

Describe why you love Pilates in three words.  I love it, because it is a whole body movement. Even in an apparent ‘leg exercise’ Pilates is including the core muscles.

Would you rather hike or bike?   As a Swiss person, I have to say hiking! It is a big passion of mine and the mountains are really an important part of Switzerland that I am missing here in the flat mid west.

If you could live anywhere in the world — where would you want to live?  There are so many nice places in the world, like Australia or Brazil. Switzerland would be an option too. The main thing for me is the ability to buy Swiss Gruyère-cheese and chocolate.

What are your favorite ways to incorporate movement into your life in addition to Pilates?  Cleaning my house and gardening are a big part of doing exercises in my daily life.

Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?  Easy question: with my husband. He has so many talents, I am sure, he would be able to spark a fire by two stones.

If you won an amazing prize, and the choice was either take an incredible vacation or get the dollar value in cash — which would you pick?  I would take the money and would plan my own vacation. I love to plan, that’s a way how I extend my vacation, the greatest pleasure lies in the anticipation!

Would you rather enjoy a houseboat or a speed boat?  A houseboat, so I would have more time to enjoy the nature around me.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Something that is generally looked upon as wrong — but you keep doing it?  If eating chocolate is a guilty pleasure, I have a big one, yes!

If you could live in a book, TV Show or Movie – what would it be?  I would enjoy to be a fifth girl in the TV series ‘Sex and the City’. Besides the city life, fashion and parties they have I am a big fan of the thick band of friendship, those four ladies have.

What animal best represents you and why?   Hard question. Maybe a bat. I like to be upside-down at least once a day, like bats do.

Do you have a pet peeve?   When somebody is not saying the truth with a smile on their face and thinks, that she/he is still friendly.

If you had to change your first name — what would you change it to?  I would choose ‘Anna’. That would be much easier to order at Starbucks, since my name is not common here in the USA.

What is your favorite body part / why?    My feet. They carries me through life the whole day.

Do you collect anything / what / and why?  I collect pantyhose. I love wearing skirts, so I need a lot of pantyhose in wintertime.
