The benefits of Pilates are incredibly wide-ranging. Whether you want to increase flexibility, balance, endurance, or strength. Perhaps you’re a dancer looking to elongate your muscles to enhance the appearance of your performance. Or maybe you’re a golfer or tennis player in need of a stronger swing for those days on the course/courts. Different types of Pilates workouts are the perfect answer for all of these fitness goals. Guaranteed no matter what you do, get ready for a dramatic increase in muscle tone. No issues with that, right? Of course not! Especially with summer just around the corner.
So, what can you do to amp up the muscle tone building? Here are some specific Pilates moves you can try out – from the studio or your living room – that will help you get started!
- Pulses: To get those upper arms nice and cut, give pulses a try! If you’re not in the studio, just hop up in between commercial breaks. Stand up straight with your arms outstretched to the sides parallel to your shoulders. Pulse your arms (teeny tiny movements!) with your palms down, palms up, and thumbs to the sky. This is also great for your posture!
- 100s: If you know anything about Pilates, you most definitely have heard of the 100s. But that doesn’t mean you know what they’re about! So here you go: The Pilates 100s are the most fantastic tool to tone those aggravating abs. Your whole body is workin’ it in this position. Read this article from FitSugar for specific directions!
- To get the glutes it really requires a lot of attention to the mind body connection. It’s as much about the position as it is about focusing your attention on engaging your glutes. A favorite exercise of mine is heel beats. Simply lay on the floor on your stomach with your forehead resting on your hands. Lift your legs straight out by engaging your glutes and tap your heels together! Small movements and don’t forget to engage, engage, engage!
Easy peasy right? Of course! Well, these poses may seem easy at first but you are sure to feel it the next day. And if you keep up the solid work on a regular basis, you are sure to see results in no time!
